Organic Masters 2019: 2 awards for Maris – The Drinks Business

Two wines from Château Maris have been awarded at the Organic Masters 2019 by The Drinks Business : a gold medal to Savoir Vieillir 2018 and Master to Dynamic 2016.

SAVOIR VIEILLIR 2018 – GOLD MEDAL
“Between £15 and £20 we found our best-value pick of the day, Savoir Veillir, a pure Syrah from Minervois, made by biodynamic Château Maris. Soft, intense, with masses of black fruit, spice and touch of tapenade, this was a great wine at an affordable price, that we later found out, much to our surprise due to its clean and expressive fresh fruit character, is also made with no added sulphites.”

DYNAMIC 2016 – MASTER
“Europe also shone at this top end of the tastings. Notably once again, Château Maris, which produced our star of the day with its ultimate expression: Dynamic. Gaining an average score of 96 points from our exacting judges, it appealed to everyone for its clearly identifiable fine, concentrated dark berry and pepper Syrah character, and smooth fleshy black cherry flavours on the palate, along with a touch of smoky complexity, grippy texture, and some sweet oak in the background. A big, powerful drop in its youth, that also displayed an appealing brightness too. As Stefanowicz summed up about the wine, “Balanced, concentrated, complex, layered and lingering on the finish.”

Maris, terrific, character-filled wines – Jeb Dunnuck

« Château Maris is a Minervois estate producing terrific, character-filled wines… » Jeb Dunnuck

LES AMANDIERS 2017 – 94/96 POINTS
“Always one of my favorite releases from this terrific estate, the Syrah-dominated 2017 Les Amandiers (there’s some Grenache in the blend as well) offers a full-bodied, lively, yet deep and rich profile that carries stunning notes of cassis, black raspberries, olives, ground pepper, and Asian spices. It has good acidity, beautiful purity, terrific balance, and is a stunning Minervois that will keep for over a decade.”

LES PLANELS 2017 – 90/92 POINTS
“Mostly Grenache, the 2017 Les Planels is a sweetly fruited, plush, hedonist beauty that gives up loads of ripe red and black fruits, toasted spices, chocolate, and incense aromas and flavors. With sweet tannins, medium to full body, no hard edges, and outstanding length, it’s ideal for drinking over the coming 6-8 years.”

LA TOUGE 2017 – 89/91 POINTS
“Leading off these new releases from Domaine Maris, the 2017 Syrah La Touge (there’s some Grenache in the blend as well) offers plenty of black and blue fruits as well as classic pepper, violets, and earthy aromas and flavors. It’s medium to full-bodied, juicy, balanced, and already delicious.”
